The European Radioecology Alliance organised two refresher courses in ICRER 2014
The European Radioecology Alliance (ALLIANCE) organised, in collaboration with STAR and COMET, two refresher sessions on “ERICA Tool Update” and “Noble Gases modelling” during the Third International Conference on Radioecology and Environmental Radioactivity, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, the days 7-12 of September 2014.
Dr. N.A Beresford (CEH, UK) was in charge of the “ERICA Tool Update” session on Wednesday 10th of September. An over view of the changes that will have the 2014 revised version of the tool were presented. These changes in the Tool have been predominantly prompted by experience gained since 2007 and user feedback, developments in and analyses of transfer parameter databases and ICRP publications.
In the second session on Modelling Noble gases, Dr. J. Vives i Batlle (SCK-CEN, Belgium) described alternative approaches to calculate doses from noble gases, since the ERICA tool does not include a method to do these calculations. Also practical guidance was given on how to make noble gas assessments to animals and plants.
The course was well received by ICRER participants and they were attended by 30-50 scientists.
